AIDEN interview 31/10/05

check out VICTORY RECORD's new horse ...AIDEN!!!

TSM: Hey guys what's up? How's life running?

Life is fucking good, I couldn't ask for anything more.

TSM: that’s fine, at first please introduce yourself? Who are you, what's AIDEN and who plays in the band?

my name is Wil I sing in the band. Aiden is a group of misfit kids who normally would not fit in, that got together for one reason, to rock. Nick plays bass, Angel and Jake W. play guitar and Jake D. plays drums.

TSM: what about the bandname AIDEN? What stands behind this name?

a band that is in it to play music we love and have a good time.

TSM: what do you think is the best side of AIDEN, and what's the worst

...nobody is perfect roght?! the best side is that we all have the same goals and same vision for what we want to accomplish. The worst side of aiden is... actually there is no worse side everything is fucking awesome.

TSM: You are a very young band and you played a lot of shows. You recorded your first CD in 2004 and promoted it DIY. How was it to get the news, that you had now the chance to sign on VICTORY RECORDS?

It was so surreal, like I was in a dream. It was amazing. I can't even describe it in words.

TSM: What changed? How is it to work together with one of the biggest hardcore labels worldwide?

Like I said its a fuckin dream come true. I am huge fan of a lot of the bands on victory, and to share the same home with them is absolutly amazing.

TSM: Your new record NIGHTMARE ANATOMY is out, how is the feedback so far?

The feedback is good, we have had a really good response. Every show we play there are people there singing all the words. Its rad.

TSM: Please tell us something about the pre-production and the final recordings, I saw a small video about that and I am really interested ...studio could be war!!!

Pre-production was really intense, we spent 10 hours a day 7 days a week for a month doing it. Then in the studio to make sure we were having fun we all bought nerf guns and when we need a break the studio turned into a nerf gun warzone. Ha ha

TSM: Some time ago I was listening to one of your songs "I Set My Friends on Fire". It sounds harder and more aggressive then the new songs. Please tell us something about the progess of your songwriting?

Usually I'll come in with an idea like a chorus or a riff or melody line and we all work on arrangement. Then I'll go back and work out the kinks and try new stuff. Its a really intense process. I think nightmare is the best stuff we have done.

TSM: Who is writing all the lyrics, and what kind of inspiration does it take to write such songs?

I write all the lyrics. All of the inspiration comes just from living. I went through a time in my life where I was on drugs and living on the streets. It was a dark time in my life, I had a few friends die, I spent a lot of time in jail, it all comes back when I'm writing.

TSM: Is there a main message behind NIGHTMARE ANATOMY?

I think there is an underlying message and if you can decipher the code it reads: you are not alone in this world, there are millions like you, you'll get through this if you can hold on.

TSM: Which bands influenced your music?

Misfits, nirvana, green day, bad religion, nofx and many more.

TSM: Please tell us something about your past, about your musical childhood, your first show ...the moment punkrock came into your lifes?

The firs time I saw nirvana's video for smells like teen spirit, I saw the honest raw sincerity in what those guys were doing. At the time it was all hair metal and spandex. Kurt cobain came in with ripped up jeans and a sweater and said fuck you guys, here I am. That's punk rock. I was hooked.

TSM: Are there any bands you don't like? Which would be the last band you go on tour with?

I don't think there is a band out right now that we wouldn't tour with.

TSM: And which band would be the best to tour with?

A.F.I

TSM: Beside promoting your new records, what are your future plans?

I plan on traveling a lot and seeing the world.

TSM: When are you coming over to Germany? Any plans for another European tour?

There's talk of february if not then definitly in april.

TSM: How was the last tour to England with Silverstein? Was it your first tour outside the US? and how was it to play outside? Tell us something about the reactions? Is there something like an AIDEN-MANIA coming up, he he

The tour with silverstein was amazing. We had a blast, it was our first tour outside the u.s. The reaction was good on that tour, when we came back a couple of weeks ago in october, it was madness. I couldn't believe how crazy the shows were. It was a bit like aiden mania ha ha. We'll see what happens next time we come.

TSM: Thanks for the interview. I wish you good luck for the future. Take care. Hope to see you soon, any words for some friends or our readers?

We are coming. Get ready...
